PROPOSED DATE FOR TIREE LINKSPAN CLOSURE
The linkspan at Tiree Ferry Terminal is likely to close on 28 February for three weeks to accommodate a linkspan replacement project, which was postponed due to adverse weather.
The linkspan was originally due to be out of operation from Monday 24 February until Tuesday 17 March. However, Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) and Calmac decided to delay the closure to facilitate the delivery of essential goods to the island. Poor weather conditions in recent weeks has impacted deliveries.
Next Friday is the re-scheduled closure date, although this is subject to confirmation of weather conditions . CalMac will continue to monitor the weather and the transportation of essential goods to ensure all lifeline supplies are delivered prior to the closure. Ramsay Muirhead, Director of Port Infrastructure and Planning at CMAL, said:
“Hopefully, with a more settled weather forecast, the project will get underway next week, with the same three-week completion timescale.”
A further update will be provided by CMAL early week commencing 24 February.
Vehicles will be unable to travel to the island during the linkspan closure. CalMac will operate a passenger only service, supplemented by a third-party freight vessel service.
CMAL is replacing the Tiree linkspan as part of a £3.7 million project to replace the linkspans at Coll and Tiree ferry terminals. The new linkspan at Coll was installed in November 2019.
