The linkspan at Tiree Ferry Terminal will close on Friday 28 February for a linkspan replacement project, Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL has confirmed.

The linkspan will re-open on Saturday 21 March 2020.  The last scheduled vehicle sailing will be Thursday 27th February, departing Tiree at 19:00hrs, arriving at Oban 22:20hrs.

During the closure period, vehicles will be unable to travel to/from the island.  CalMac will operate a passenger only service, supplemented by a third-party freight vessel service.  Those with a requirement to ship essential goods before the closure should contact Oban port office on 01631 700 506.

The original closure period from 24 February to 17 March was postponed as a result of the recent storms and the impact on ferry services reaching the island.  CMAL and Calmac decided to delay the closure to allow the delivery of essential goods and supplies.

CMAL is replacing the Tiree linkspan as part of a £3.7 million project to replace the linkspans at Coll and Tiree ferry terminals.  The new linkspan at Coll was installed in November 2019.

Ramsay Muirhead, Director of Port Infrastructure and Planning at CMAL, said:

“The island will essentially remain ‘open for business’ throughout the linkspan closure period, with alternative passenger and freight services in place throughout the duration of the work.  We are keen to get the project underway, which will improve the long-term resilience of harbour infrastructure at Tiree.”
