GROUND INVESTIGATION WORKS

Mariners are advised that starting 05 November 2022, ground investigation works (boreholes) will commence both on the shore and on the water at Gourock Ferry Terminal, Gourock Bay, Firth of Clyde.

The work is expected to be completed within 5-6 weeks and will be undertaken from vessel (jack-up barge) OCM80 pictured below. The vessel is not self-propelled and when required, will be manoeuvred under tow.

With reference to the illustration below, the barge will shift north of position 2 to roughly abeam of the “roundhead” on the morning of 18 November 2022. Mariners are requested not to be moored in the vicinity of or to be manoeuvring in the vicinity of the barge when it is in transit. The barge, once in position will then jack-up and continue in the ground investigation works.

The barge will be maintaining a 25-metre exclusion zone around them. Any vessel requiring entering or exit of the exclusion zone are requested to contact the barge on VHF CH12.

These dates may be subject to change so please contact the port on 01475 650 100 (Press Option 2) for an exact sitrep.

Vessel OCM80 will then be undertaking a multitude of other boreholes in the vicinity of the ferry terminal and nearby areas for the following four weeks.

Communication will be maintained with CalMac Ferries and others as required via VHF radio 12 and 16 throughout all ground investigation works.

All vessels navigating in the vicinity of Gourock Ferry Terminal, Gourock Bay, during this time are requested to maintain a lookout for the jack-up barge and pass at a safe distance and speed to minimise the effects of wash on the vessel.

Unless otherwise promulgated, information regarding the current status of NTMs can be found at https://www.cmassets.co.uk/harbours/notice-to-mariners therefore if the NTM is still ‘Active’ then it is still in force.

This NTM replaces 52/22 which is now cancelled.
