Mariners are advised that following the relaxation of some Covid-19 restrictions, on 03 July 2020 capital dredging will recommence within the inner harbour and at East Loch Tarbert, Isle of Harris.

The vessels involved in this operation are a dredge barge plus up to 2 hopper barges and a tug who will maintain a radio watch on channels 12 and 16. It should be noted, weather permitting the tug and barges will be transiting daily from East Loch Tarbert to the disposal ground at Arnish, Stornoway. Dredge works are scheduled to be concluded within one week.

In addition to the dredge works, on 02 and 10 July bathymetric surveys will be undertaken from a small workboat.

The survey team supervisor will monitor VHF channels 12 and 16 and liaise with the local CalMac Ferries Ltd Port Manager to ensure there is no disruption to scheduled ferry services.

All vessels navigating in the vicinity of inner East Loch Tarbert during the periods indicated are advised to maintain a lookout for the survey vessel and proceed with caution, regulating your speed to minimise the effects of wash accordingly.

Throughout the works scheduled ferry services will continue operation however, pier access by other vessels will be restricted and only permitted by prior arrangement with the Port Manager in liaison with the works supervisor and tug master.
