Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL), the owner of 26 ports, harbours and slipways across the West of Scotland and the Clyde Estuary, has appointed ABPmer as its Designated Person under the requirements of the Department for Transport Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC).

The Code states that a ‘Designated Person’ must be appointed to provide independent assurance about the operations of the marine safety management system. This assurance is required by the Duty Holder, who is accountable for compliance with the Code.

David McHardie, CMAL’s Harbour Master, said:

“As the Statutory Harbour Authority, CMAL has a clear focus on ensuring safe port marine operations are delivered. Assurance auditing forms an integral part of our safety management system; we look forward to working with ABPmer as our independent Designated Person.”

Monty Smedley, Head of Maritime at ABPmer said:

“We are very pleased to be working alongside CMAL to deliver port marine safety assurance. The West of Scotland and the Clyde Estuary is connected by essential ferry lifeline services, many of which use port infrastructure owned by CMAL. We look forward to offer our Designated Person services in support of port marine safety ssurance.”

ABPmer commenced the role as Designated Person for CMAL in October.
