Please note this further update on the passenger access system (PAS) at Craignure Ferry Terminal.

As published on 28 May 2026, the PAS at Craignure Ferry Terminal remains out of service. Following investigations, assessment and careful consideration, it will not be returned to service in its current form. We understand this will be disappointing news and will impact the local community, businesses and those travelling through Craignure, particularly during the busier summer period.

CMAL has been working closely with CalMac Ferries and specialist advisors to explore options for foot passenger access to MV Isle of Mull at Craignure. The most likely solution has focused on utilising the PAS platform in a fixed position at a level to allow access over the brow gangway within a certain tidal window. It was recognised from the outset that this would not suit all sailings, but it was felt worthwhile to explore whether a significant proportion could be accommodated. Analysis of tidal forecast data and timetabled sailings is continuing and will be considered along with operational practicality to determine the suitability of this option.

CalMac Ferries is managing passenger access to vessels via the car decks at the port at an operational level. We understand that these arrangements may have an impact on those travelling through Craignure, particularly during busy periods. Operations are being managed as efficiently as possible by frontline staff, while ensuring the safety of the travelling public, port staff and vessel crews. We will share further updates as soon as we are able. In the meantime, passengers should continue to check the operator’s travel updates before they travel. For service information details, please check CalMac’s Service Status.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding, especially towards frontline staff.

—Fraser Wallace, Head of Harbour Operations, CalMac
