Complete NTM 50/22

Mariners are advised that weather permitting from 29 October 2022, ground investigation works will commence both on the shore and on the water at Port Ellen Harbour, Isle of Islay.

Initially, workboat Coastbuster II will be on site to undertake seaward boreholes near to the pier, fixed ramp and linkspan as indicated in blue in the chart below. Within the following week it is scheduled that overwater borehole works will be conducted from a cantilevered frame positioned on the quayside. The boreholes are marked out in red on the chart below.

To maintain a safe working area for the contractors and harbour users it is requested the seaward areas indicated in red and blue on the chartlet on the waterside, and the quayside areas marked in green are kept clear of vessels and equipment for the duration of the works to allow them to be carried out as quickly and safely as possible.

It is appreciated it may not be possible to have all areas clear at all times and would request the contractor and port manager liaise with the ferry operator and other local harbour users on a daily basis to coordinate vessel movements.

While on site the Coastbuster III will monitor VHF Channel 16.

All vessels navigating in the vicinity of the above-named location during this time are advised to do so with caution and regulate their speed to minimise the effects of wash accordingly.
