1 61/14

This notice to mariners should be read in conjunction with the contents of CMAL NTMs 02/14 and 52/14.

It has been reported that that there have been several instances this year where vessels have been within the approaches to Largs Ferry Terminal or manoeuvred in the vicinity of the pier and have not allowed sufficient sea-room for the safe passage of the ferry to approach and depart the inner harbour and to avoid a possible close-quarters situation.

The chosen course for RoRo ferries approaching or departing CMAL harbours is primarily determined by the prevailing weather conditions or circumstances and local navigational constraints.

Mariners are therefore advised to consider their proximity to ferry routes and the frequency of ferry operations when undertaking anchoring, mooring or manoeuvring vessels or boats of any description, in such a position that may cause conflict with the passage of any scheduled ferries approaching or leaving Largs Ferry Terminal.

Should any mariners experience such situations at this location it is requested the circumstances are reported to CalMac Ferries Ltd port operations staff who will thereafter forward the information for the attention of the CMAL Harbour Master.
