1 14/15

With reference to NTM 06/15 which remains in force, mariners are advised that dive contractors ABCO Divers Ltd will be undertaking surface and diving operations to install sacrificial anodes to the berthing steps platform piles along the length of the quay wall adjacent to the vehicle linkspan at Gourock Ferry Terminal.

The dive project will commence on Monday 16th February 2015 and will involve wet stick welding techniques.

ABCO Divers Ltd will be operating from the quayside with divers entering and exiting the water from the multi-cat workboat ‘Oscar’ which will be in attendance accompanied by a RIB safety boat. Works are programmed to be completed within approximately one week. At all times operational working areas will be appropriately marked using Flag A “Diving Operations”.

The dive supervisor will monitor VHF channels 12 and 16 and liaise with the Port Manager and skippers of the Argyll and Kilcreggan Ferries to ensure there is no disruption to scheduled ferry services.

With the exception of the Argyll ferries which will continue to operate to schedule from the front of the vehicle linkspan all vessels navigating in the vicinity of Gourock Ferry Terminal are advised to exercise vigilance and pass at minimum safe manoeuvring speed and not less than 50m distance from the dive site to reduce the risk of damage or injury being caused by the passing vessel’s wash or displacement.

Skippers of all vessels intending to come alongside the main berth at Gourock must contact the dive supervisor prior to berthing to ensure sufficient time is allowed for the diver to exit the water if required which will be confirmed by the lowering of Flag A.
