Ardrossan ferry terminal returns for operations following essential works

Ardrossan ferry terminal has been handed back to CalMac following the completion of a programme of essential repair and maintenance works.

Our contractor, George Leslie Limited, has installed 11 new berthing fenders at the Arran Berth. The new fenders form part of the work being undertaken to support the continued operation and resilience of the berth.

We are also considering the installation of one additional fender at the eastern end of Winton Pier, following a suggestion from CalMac. If this proceeds, the work will be planned with CalMac to avoid disruption to ferry services. We also hold a number of spare fenders on site.

The programme included several other repairs and improvements around the harbour and terminal:

  • temporary inspection and work platforms were installed on the Arran Berth linkspan dolphins, enabling work to proceed on mechanical and electrical systems;
  • steelwork elements between the linkspan and the shore were replaced;
  • stone steps within the harbour were resurfaced with metal grip surfaces;
  • the lifting frame for the passenger access system was repaired and repainted; and
  • automatic doors were installed at the terminal building’s main entrance and ferry embarkation points, improving access for passengers
  • the terminal building roof and exterior were cleaned, and road markings were repainted

The temporary platforms on the linkspan dolphins will remain in place while we prepare more permanent structures. These will provide safer access to the linkspan machinery for future inspection and maintenance.

We undertook the work in close collaboration with CalMac. We are grateful to passengers, local communities, and other harbour users for their patience while the terminal was closed.

These activities form part of our ongoing repair and maintenance programme at Ardrossan. They are intended to support the port’s continued operation while we develop proposals for its longer-term redevelopment.

Our first public engagement events for the redevelopment of Ardrossan Harbour will take place in Brodick on 27 October and Ardrossan on 28 October 2026. Find out more about the Ardrossan Harbour public engagement events.

Passengers should continue to check CalMac’s service status information before travelling.
