Mariners are advised that contractors George Leslie Ltd are continuing repairs and partial reconstruction of the breakwater structure at Kerrera Ferry Slipway, Sound of Kerrera. Weather permitting planned construction works will conclude in by February 2019.
During this time scheduled ferry services will continue operation however, all vessels should be aware that a spud-leg barge will be positioned on the south side of the breakwater and will extend to seaward beyond the limits of the present structure. The seaward extremities of the barge will be marked by temporary installation thereon of the current breakwater aid to navigation light displaying 2 FR (vert). If at any time the barge has to be moved or the temporary works for piling project significantly further to seaward the navigation light will be relocated accordingly. Throughout the period of the works contractors will ensure that the lights are clearly displayed and functioning at all times.
A small safety boat may also be in attendance and when required works will also involve commercial diving projects.
The contractor’s supervisor and any dive supervisor will liaise with the CalMac Harbour Manager and ferry Masters and will monitor VHF channels 12 and 16. At all relevant times when diving operations are ongoing Flag A will be displayed.
During the period of works mariners navigating near to Kerrera Ferry Slipway are advised to maintain a look-out for workboats and any A Flag being displayed, maintain a safe distance and pass at minimum speed to reduce vessel wash.
With reference to NTM 23/18, mariners are also reminded only authorised vessels are allowed to berth on the structure and these vessels are the local scheduled ferry and any others engaged in routine inspection or repairs to the berthing structure.
