Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) is hosting a series of public meetings to update communities in Uig, Lochmaddy and Tarbert (Harris) on the two new vessels being procured for the Little Minch.

The events will take place at the following times and locations:

  • Tuesday 22 November, from 6pm to 8pm at Uig Village Hall
  • Wednesday 23 November, from 6pm to 8pm at Lochmaddy Village Hall
  • Thursday 24 November, from 6pm to 8pm at Tarbert Village Hall

The meetings will include a presentation from CMAL regarding the vessel type, cargo configuration, passenger areas, accessibility and overall vessel configuration.  There will then be a Q&A session.

There will be further engagement with communities regarding timetables and scheduling at a later date.

Kevin Hobbs, chief executive at CMAL said: “We are procuring two new vessels for the Little Minch routes to Lochmaddy and Tarbert, which will deliver dedicated services to North Uist and Harris in the peak season rather than the shared vessel operation currently in place.

“We will be meeting with communities to share details of the plans, and to discuss any elements that we have not included or if there are any requests for change – always bearing in mind affordability. We hope to see many members of the community there.”
