The newly refurbished waiting room at Portavadie Ferry Terminal has opened to passengers.

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL), which owns the building, has completed a project to extend and upgrade the facility.

The gable end of the existing building was demolished to create an extension and internal alterations were made to the building layout to form new male and female toilets, an accessible toilet with baby changing facilities, as well as a larger waiting room.  The exterior is covered in grey fibre cement weatherboard cladding to reduce future maintenance and bring the building into line with CMAL’s construction style, which has already been rolled out at Fishnish, Largs and Lochranza. Reflecting CMAL’s commitment to sustainable buildings, air source heat pump and underfloor heating has been installed.

Andy Jones, Buildings & Property Technical Manager, CMAL said:

“The refurbishment project means ferry passengers now have access to a spacious and modern facility.  The external finish reflects our standard approach to all recent waiting room refurbishments across our network of buildings and is part of our ongoing programme of harbour upgrades.  We hope it offers a more comfortable travel experience for passengers.”
