Mariners are advised that weather permitting, works to repair fendering at Castlebay Ferry Terminal pier, Isle of Barra will commence on or about Thursday 16th October 2014.

Contractors North West Marine Ltd will be operating from the dive support vessel MV Headcorn and the pier deck with a safety boat in attendance. Works are programmed to be completed on or about 12th November 2014.

Works will include a dive project and at all times operational working areas will be appropriately marked using Flag A “Diving Operations” and during the hours of darkness or reduced visibility by the relevant navigation lights.

The contractor’s supervisor will monitor VHF Channel 16 and liaise with the Port Manager and Masters of the CalMac Ferries to ensure there is no disruption to scheduled ferry services.

All vessels navigating in the vicinity of Castlebay Ferry Terminal pier are advised to exercise vigilance and pass at minimum safe manoeuvring speed and sufficient distance from the dive support vessel to reduce the risk of damage or injury being caused by the passing vessel’s wash or displacement.

Vessels are also advised, with the exception of scheduled ferry movements, Castlebay Ferry Terminal main berth will be closed to all vessel access while diving operations are on-going.
