Mariners are advised that Caledonian Geotechnical have been contracted to undertake ground investigation works adjacent to Gourock Ferry Terminal linkspan.

Drilling works are to be undertaken by sub-contractor Phoenix Drilling. The scope of works includes 3 No. boreholes which are to be drilled over the side of the existing linkspan approach way structure on a cantilever platform with cable percussive and rotary drilling rigs.  There will be an inflatable safety boat on standby in the water each day during drilling operations.

Equipment will be moved onto site on Friday 3rd October and weather permitting, works are programmed to commence on Monday 6th October and last a duration of approximately 5 days.

The Site Agent will liaise with Masters of ferries using the facaility and the local port manager to ensure there is no disruption to scheduled ferry services and will maintain a radio watch on VHF channels 16 and 12.

All vessels navigating in the vicinity of Gourock Ferry Terminal are advised to exercise vigilance and pass at minimum safe manoeuvring speed and sufficient distance from the area of works to reduce the risk of damage or injury being caused by the passing vessel’s wash or displacement. Owners and operators of high speed vessels should be particularly vigilant regarding their speed and the wash that can be created.
