The linkspan at Gourock Ferry Terminal will be closed for a further two-day period to complete essential maintenance work.  It will close on Wednesday 4th December and re-open on Friday 6th December.

The closure is required to complete repairs that commenced on 19th November on the maintenance access platforms and ladders.  The contractor was unable to complete all repairs during the initial tidal window.  Poor weather conditions on some days meant it was not safe to carry out physical work on the maintenance platforms and wave damage to the temporary works on the platform meant a section had to be removed and will have to be replaced.

Ramsay Muirhead, Director of Port Infrastructure and Planning at CMAL, said:

“Unfortunately, it was not possible to complete all of the repair works during the initial four-day closure period.  The marine environment can be unpredictable and hazardous, and construction work can be hampered by weather and tidal conditions.  We know this brings further inconvenience for ferry passengers, but we hope people recognise that health and safety must be a priority and work must be carried out in a safe manner.”

The works are weather and tide dependent.

The linkspan remains closed to vehicle loading and is limited to foot passengers only.  A review is being conducted to investigate the feasibility of accepting vehicle loading.

CalMac will operate the following temporary timetable for the duration of the work:
