CMAL has updated its three-year corporate plan to include the financial year from March 2023 and to outline key achievements in the past year.

Progress in 2020/21 was hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic and associated restrictions.  However, significant milestones have been achieved across vessels, port infrastructure and corporate services.

Harbours projects at Lochaline, Tiree, Gourock and Oban were completed, and vessel replacement projects were progressed, with design consultants appointed to support new vessels for Gourock, Dunoon and Kilcreggan and ongoing concept design and stakeholder engagement activity for the new vessel to serve Islay and Jura.

Consultants have been appointed to assist concept development for two new freight vessels for the Northern Isles Ferry Service, and the Small Vessel Replacement Programme (SVRP) was launched to replace up to seven small vessels in the next 10 years.

The updated corporate plan also features a new ‘people’ section, which describes the organisation’s team structure and the professional expertise of CMAL’s employees.

Kevin Hobbs, CMAL’s chief executive, said:

“There is no doubt the past year has proved to be challenging.  Despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our people worked diligently and professionally throughout the year to progress key projects and, importantly, provided essential maintenance and repairs to the ports and harbours portfolio.

“We are pleased the Scottish Government has committed to a new five-year financial framework, which will provide welcome investment in ports and vessels.”
