CMAL donates iPads to local school
Caledonian Maritime Asset Limited (CMAL) has donated IT equipment to help support pupils with additional support needs at a local school in the Inverclyde area.
CMAL, which owns ferries, ports and harbours across Scotland, refurbished six iPads and donated them to Craigmarloch School in Port Glasgow. Secondary pupils will use them to access apps which help to improve literacy and numeracy in the run up to their national level assessments.
The iPads were previously used by CMAL employees but have been fully refurbished before being gifted to the secondary school, which currently shares equipment with the primary school.
Lynn Smith, Deputy Head Teacher of Craigmarloch said:
“With so much disruption and uncertainty around school attendance and upcoming examinations, this has been a particularly challenging year for our pupils. Technical equipment is a key part of our educational programme at Craigmarloch, helping to prepare students for their national level assessments and provide support to those who struggle with fine motor skills. However, with limited resources it can sometimes be difficult to distribute equipment to everyone that would benefit from it.
“We are really grateful for the donation of iPads which will help our students access apps and software to enhance literacy and numeracy skills, as well as enabling independent research in a range of subjects.”
Kevin Hobbs, chief executive of CMAL said:
“This is undoubtedly a very uncertain and taxing time for everyone, but especially for students. With lockdown and everchanging restrictions, classroom time has been largely interrupted this year, which is bound to increase the apprehension about upcoming exams.
“We hope the donation of these iPads will help to boost spirits in the school and provide crucial support to the students who really need it.”
