Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd can confirm that an incident occurred on Wednesday 30th October at the slipway at Tobermory Harbour, during planned upgrade works. While a contracted lorry was unloading an excavator, both vehicles entered the water. No one was injured during the incident. The lorry was successfully removed at the scene, but the excavator remained in the water.

CMAL’s Head of Civil Engineering was quickly on site to supervise the recovery of the excavator, which was successfully completed at low tide late on Wednesday evening.

The ferry service which was suspended due to the incident can now resume.

CMAL’s Head of Civil Engineering is still on-site and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

CMAL would like to thank everyone for their co-operation and understanding during the recovery operation and apologise for the inconvenience that has been caused.
