PROJECTS
The team at CMAL sees its priority to improve ferries, harbours and piers to provide the travelling public with better services and provide improved value for money for the public purse.
We aim to create more certainty over when ships will be replaced and piers improved, and we want to lead the development of ports.
So we are embarking on a number of projects which will start the enhancement and renewal process:
OBAN: New ferry terminal completed and second linkspan being installed at Oban - CMAL cost £5.5 million.
Along with the new ferry terminal, a second linkspan and harbour improvements at Oban are set to be completed shortly. At a total cost of £11million this project will help secure and develop lifeline ferry services which operate to and from Oban, enabling the ferry operators Calmac Ferries to cope with increasing volumes of traffic and providing a back-up in case the existing linkspan breaks down. Islands currently served by ferries from Oban include Islay, Colonsay, Mull, Lismore, Coll, Tiree, Barra and South Uist.
LARGS: Redevelopment of Largs Pier – total cost approximately £6 million – see news
Work to redevelop Largs is now under way. The work will be complete by July 2009 to accommodate the new Loch Shira ferry and the Waverley paddle steamer.
PORT ELLEN – KENNACRAIG - Improvements to the facilities at Port Ellen and Kennacraig. To access the on-line consultation survey please click HERE
