PIERS & HARBOURS
CMAL owns and leases piers, harbours and properties around Scotland as well as owning the ferries operated by Calmac Ferries in the Firth of Clyde and around the Hebrides.
We are also a Statutory Harbour Authority at 13 locations in addition to owning and leasing infrastructure at 24 ports. In order to maintain and improve our infrastructure we charge for the use of our piers. These charges are in the form of Harbour Dues and we are currently reviewing these in line with other similar port facilities.
As Statutory Harbour Authority we have a wide range of responsibilities at each location, these include Brodick, Colonsay, Largs, Oban, Tarbert and Wemyss Bay. These duties include an obligation to conserve, and facilitate the safe use of, the harbour; and a duty of care against loss caused. Duties to ensure the safety of marine operations are matched with general and specific powers to enable the authority to discharge these duties

or is applying to become the Harbour Authority.
We are also responsible for a variety of harbours, piers and surrounding property at more than 21 locations around Scotland including Ardrossan, Stornoway and Ullapool. Our priority is the development and implementation of long term maintenance and renewal programmes as well as the safe management and operation of these assets.
We are embarking on a programme of investment and improvements which will create better facilities at these locations as well as more opportunities for additional ferry services.
