Complete NTM 46/16

Mariners are advised that RoRo ferries operating within the final approaches to Largs Ferry Terminal are constrained in their ability to manoeuvre due to the need to navigate the narrow harbour entrance in close proximity to the pier structure and shore, particularly during times of inclement weather.

It has been reported there has recently been a close quarters situation and other conflict occurrences involving fishing vessels arriving and departing Largs inner harbour due to a failure of fishing vessel skippers to maintain sufficient look out in order to make a full assessment of the situation and risk of collision during critical periods of scheduled ferry movements.

Mariners are advised that RoRo ferries arriving or departing Largs Ferry Terminal inner harbour should be permitted right of way over all other vessels to avoid any further such occurrences, if necessary by delaying departure or entry to the harbour at such times.

Should occurrences continue to be reported the circumstances will be fully investigated and any required action taken to avoid a recurrence.
