Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited has commissioned ground investigation work at Tarbert Harbour, Isle of Harris as part of an infrastructure upgrade project.  The work is required to obtain a more detailed understanding of ground and seabed conditions.

Mariners are advised that in connection with this work a specialist contractor will be on-site at the harbour from 22 March 2018 when they will initially build a jack-up barge within the inner harbour.

Weather permitting marine drilling works will then be undertaken and are scheduled to commence on or about 26 March and last for approximately four weeks. The marine work will take place at various locations on the north side of the harbour during daylight hours only between Monday and Saturday. Works are programmed to avoid impacting on scheduled ferry operations.

When operational the barge supervisor will monitor communications on VHF channels 12 and 16 at all times.

All vessels navigating in the vicinity of Tarbert (Harris) Ferry Terminal during this time are advised to maintain a look-out for the jack-up barge, proceed with caution and regulate their speed to minimise the effects of wash accordingly.

Vessels intending to call at Tarbert (Harris) Harbour should be aware that due to the nature of the works the barge will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre and the local CalMac Harbour Supervisor (tel.: 01859 570376 / VHF Channel 12 or 16) should be contacted directly for the latest information.
