Thanks to everyone who has voted for their choice of name for the new Islay ferry.

The winning name will be announced by CMAL on St Andrew’s Day, Monday 30th November 2009.

For four weeks, the public were given the opportunity to vote for their favourite name from the following shortlist:

FINLAGGAN Fionn Lagan
GLENDALE Gleann Dail
LOCHIEL Loch Iall
PIONEER Treòraiche

The new Islay ferry will be the first new ship to serve the route in thirty-seven years and marks a major investment in vessels from CMAL. The contract to build the new passenger and vehicle ferry to serve the Islay route was won by Remontowa yard in Gdansk, Poland as part of the £24.5M project. As work progresses CMAL staff will be attending equipment factory acceptance tests, dock trials and finally sea trials with the ferry scheduled to arrive in Islay in the spring of 2011.

Voting began on Monday 19th October and closed at midday on Monday 16th November.

Two lucky winners who vote for the most popular name will be chosen at random to be special guests at the ferry’s launch in Poland next year.
