Civil Maintenance Projects for 2012/2013
Project overview
CMAL has planned civil maintenance projects at various piers to be conducted throughout 2012-2013. The piers include: Brodick, Portavadie, Lochaline, Lochboisdale, Clonaig, Colintriave and Rhubodach, Cumbrae, Fishnish and Tarbert (Harris).
Brodick
Planned Maintenance Projects PM BRO 001 – Marshalling Area Improvement Project
- CMAL recently completed a project to replace defective surfacing & improve foundations & drainage in the marshalling area @ the terminal.
Portavadie
Planned Maintenance Projects PM POR 001 – Concrete Repairs to slip, road & resurfacing works.
- CMAL have recently completed a project to resurface road to slipway, and carry out concrete repairs to slipway.
Lochaline
Repair & Improvement Project
- CMAL have recently completed a project to carry out repairs & improvements to the aligning structure, berthing dolphins & slipway. A new waste compound was also constructed at the terminal.
- The foreshore area adjacent to the aligning structure will shortly be improved by clearing the area, soft landscaping the area & installing picnic tables & benches
Lochboisdale
Pier Repairs & Installation of Cathodic Protection
- CMAL recently completed this project, which consisted of repairs to the pier structures and fendering system, and the installation of CP to the pier structures. Minor additional works will be completed in near future.
Planned Maintenance Project PM LBO 001 – Lighting Improvement Project
- CMAL are currently @ tender stage for this project to replace defective external lighting & electrics at the terminal.
- Anticipated start date of 03/09/12, with a programme duration of approx. 4 weeks.
- Halcrow are the Consulting Engineers who will be providing site supervision during the works
Planned Maintenance Project PM LBO 002 – Concrete Repairs to Linkspan Approach Structure
- CMAL have awarded a repair contract to Storie Argyle Ltd to break out all defective concrete areas of the linkspan approach structure & replace with a proprietary mix.
- The works will commence (tbc), with a duration on site of 4 – 5 weeks.
- Halcrow are the Consulting Engineers who will be providing site supervision during the works.
Cloanaig
Planned Maintenance Project PM CLA 001 – Marshalling area resurfacing & lining works
- CMAL are currently @ tender stage for this project to improve defective surfacing in the marshalling area, and replace all lining @ the terminal.
- Anticipated start date of 20/08/12, with a programme duration of approx. 2 weeks.
- Halcrow are the consulting engineers who will be providing site supervision during the works.
Colintriave & Rhubodach
Planned Maintenance Projects PM CTR 001 & PM RHU 001 – Concrete Repairs to Slipways
- CMAL are currently @ tender stage for both these projects to repair all concrete joints & defective areas on the slipways.
- Anticipated start date of 30/07/12, with a programme duration of approx. 3 weeks.
- Arch Hendersons are the consulting engineers who will be providing site supervision during the works.
Cumbrae
Planned Maintenance Projects PM CUM 001 – Repairs to Slipway
- CMAL are currently @ tender stage for this project to repair the surface & foundation of the north side of slipway.
- Anticipated start date of 13/08/12, with a programme duration of approx. 3 weeks.
- Arch Hendersons are the consulting engineers who will be providing site supervision during the works.
Fishnish
Water & Lighting Improvement Project
- CMAL currently have TSL Ltd on site at Fishnish Terminal, upgrading the water supply, replacing defective external lighting and carrying out concrete repairs to the slipway.
- Project started on site on 25/06/12, with a planned duration of 5 weeks.
- Atkins are the consulting engineers who will be providing site supervision during the works.
Tarbert (Harris)
Pier Repairs & CP Installation project
- CMAL currently have North West Marine Ltd on site at Tarbert Terminal, carrying out repairs to pier structure, repairs/replacement of boat steps & ladders and installing Cathodic Protection to the pier structures.
- Project started on site in early May, CP Installation started early June, planned completion date is early August.

CMAL has announced that consulting engineers Atkins Ltd have been appointed to progress plans to replace part of the sea wall at Lochranza, which is currently in poor condition.

Complete Mariners are advised that Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) have instigated a planned diving inspection of the Lochranza Ferry Terminal on Tuesday 7th June and Wednesday 8th June 2011. Diving will be conducted between 0800 and 1800 daily.
