Oban South Pier Planning Study

CMAL and Argyll & Bute Council have commissioned consultants URS Scott Wilson to undertake a Feasibility Study, considering options for development around the South Pier at Oban. 

The objective of the study is to identify a long term master plan for the area, taking account of stakeholders requirements; CMAL’s long term plans for replacement of  number 1 linkspan& modificationsto the Lismore Ferry Slipway; and the development of the South Pier as a dedicated fishing berth, feeding into Argyll & Bute Council’s CHORD programme.

Consultation and workshops withstakeholders including CalMac Ferries Ltd, RNLI, NLB and Oban Port Users have been arranged for key stages of the study, which is due for completion in early 2012.

Voting opens on the shortlist to name the world's second sea going hybrid ferry

Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) has announced the shortlist of names for their next sea going Roll On Roll Off vehicle and passenger diesel electric hybrid ferry, due to launch in summer 2013. The vessel is currently being built at Ferguson Shipyard in Port Glasgow and will be the second ferry in the new Scottish literature class, which will form the basis of all future hybrid ferry names. The first hybrid ferry, the MV HALLAIG, launched in December last year.

NTM 09/13: Discontinuation of Lochboisdale RoRo Terminal Head Aid to Navigation Light A4010

Mariners are advised that an application for a Statutory Sanction of the Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses to discontinue the sector light at Lochboisdale RoRo Terminal (A4010), Lochboisdale, South Uist, has been granted and the light will be discontinued with immediate effect.
