Winning name for world’s first hybrid ferry announced

Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) has announced the winning name for the world’s first hybrid ferry after a two stage competition. There were hundreds of votes entered to name the world’s first sea going roll on roll off vehicle and passenger diesel electric hybrid ferry, but the most popular name by far was Hallaig.

Port Ellen pier officially opened

After extensive redevelopment, Port Ellen pier on Islay was officially opened by CMAL on Thursday 30th August. Work on the pier was successfully completed in June, and reopened to traffic on the 1st July 2012.

CMAL lead successful consortium bid on sustainable ferries study for Scottish Enterprise

CMAL has been commissioned to carry out a feasibility study for Scottish Enterprise that will evaluate the technical and commercial possibilities of using hydrogen fuel cells to enable the development of zero emission ferries.
