Following the announcement in February that the MV JUNO was to be recycled, CMAL has confirmed that the vessel has now completed the recycling process at DRB’s facility in Rosneath.

The process began on the 18th May, with the last material leaving the site on 21st July. 602 tonnes of steel has been sent to recyclers in Glasgow.

MV JUNO was recycled under the UK ship recycling strategy, a DEFRA initiative, supported by the Scottish Government, which applies to all vessels that are owned by the UK Government and its agencies.

The initiative has a strategic approach to the recycling of UK-flagged vessels, consistent with the UK’s national and international sustainable developments commitments and encourages, through the provision of guidance, the development of UK capacity for recycling end of life vessels in an environmentally sound manner.
