Mariners are advised that Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) has contracted Herbosch- Kiere Marine Contractors Ltd to undertake the removal of a sunken dumb barge adjacent to the Kennacraig ferry terminal, West Loch Tarbert.

The removal works will start at Kennacraig Ferry Terminal on 03 May 2010 and are programmed to be complete by 11 June 2010.

The works generally involve large mechanical grabs, mounted on floating plant situated south of the barge, breaking up the sunken barge and transferring the waste material to the shore at Kennacraig Ferry Terminal or West Loch Tarbert Pier. The contractor will have divers on site to assist in the removal works. The divers and the floating plant will be appropriately signed, marked and lit at all times.

The existing buoys that currently demark the northern side of the barge will be maintained throughout the works, as well as the placing of additional buoys to demark the working area. Upon completion of the works, all buoys will be removed.

These works will be conducted at the following approximate location: - 55° 48.38N, 5° 29.02W.
