Mariners are advised that CMAL have appointed Arch Henderson to carry out maintenance and repair works to the pier and linkspan facilities at Tarbert Ferry Terminal, Harris.
The works will commence on Wednesday 9th May 2012 and are programmed to last 12-weeks.
Works consist of repairs to steel sheet piled elements of the inner & outer lifting dolphins, inner & outer mooring dolphins, pier structure and the linkspan approach abutments, upgrading works to boat steps and the installation of cathodic protection. Works are being undertaken predominantly from a work boat, utilising divers from North West Marine Ltd. Operational working areas where diving activities are being undertaken will at all times be appropriately marked utilising Flag A “Diving Operations”. Divers will enter the water from a workboat which must monitor VHF Channel 16. Additional equipment will be stored on the pier.
Arch Henderson will coordinate all works to be undertaken between arrivals of the scheduled ferry services at Tarbert Ferry Terminal, causing no disruption to the service. At this time it is the intention to conduct all works operations as day-shifts only for the duration of the project.
All vessels navigating in the vicinity of Tarbert Ferry Terminal must do so with caution and regulate their speed to minimise the effects of wash accordingly. Vessels berthing must do so with care and call the diving support vessel on VHF Channel 16 to ensure all divers are clear of the water if required.
