Date of issue: Friday 13th April 2012
Ref: 19/12
Status: Complete
Further to NTM 03/12, mariners are advised of an update to the pier reconstruction and harbour improvement works at Port Ellen Ferry Terminal, Islay.
Harbour dredging works and backfilling with rock armour within the inner and outer harbours which commenced on 8th February 2012 will now continue until the end of April 2012. The operations will involve two large vessels manoeuvring around the inner and outer harbour. Both vessels engaged in this operation will at all times display appropriate navigation lights, will maintain a VHF listening watch on channels 9, 15 and 16 and must liaise with local mariners to allow safe navigational passage into and out of the inner harbour and fish quays which will remain open for all commercial and recreational users throughout this operation.
In addition, works to complete the new pier, which are being undertaken from land, are utilising divers where necessary. Operational working areas where diving activities are being undertaken will at all times be appropriately marked utilising Flag A “Diving Operations”. Divers will enter the water from the pier.
From 23th April a small workboat will be on site for approximately one month to facilitate fitting of fendering to the pier.
The main pier remains closed to all vessels for the duration of the works.
All vessels navigating in the vicinity of the pier and inner harbour must do so with caution and regulate their speed to minimise the effects of wash accordingly.
Issue of this Notice to Mariners cancels the previous NTMs 01/12 and 03/12.
