Mariners are advised that CMAL have appointed Stork Technical Services (UK) Ltd to carry out cathodic protection system replacement works to the pier sheet steel piling at Lochboisdale Ferry Terminal, South Uist.
The repair works will commence on Tuesday 10th April 2012 and are programmed to last thee weeks.
Works consist of the installation of cathodic protection to steel sheet piled elements of the inner & outer lifting dolphins, inner & outer mooring dolphins, quay wall and the linkspan approach abutments, being undertaken predominantly from a work boat, utilising divers from North West Marine Ltd. Operational working areas where diving activities are being undertaken will at all times be appropriately marked utilising Flag A “Diving Operations”. Divers will enter the water from a workboat which must monitor VHF Channel 16.
Stork Technical Services (UK) Ltd will coordinate all works to be undertaken between arrivals of the scheduled ferry services at Lochboisdale Ferry Terminal, causing no disruption to the service. At this time it is the intention to conduct all works operations as day-shifts only for the duration of the project.
All vessels navigating in the vicinity of Lochboisdale Ferry Terminal must do so with caution and regulate their speed to minimise the effects of wash accordingly. Vessels berthing must do so with care and call the diving support vessel on VHF Channel 16 to ensure all divers are clear of the water if required.
