CMAL response to heavy berthing at Port Ellen

15 November 2010

Following the heavy berthing of MV Hebridean Isles at Port Ellen on Friday 5th November, an engineering inspection of the roundhead and pier was undertaken. Based on the recommendations of this inspection, CMAL has instructed Calmac Ferries Ltd to exercise caution when using the pier in adverse weather conditions and minimise use of the roundhead during berthing operations. Closure of the port for reconstruction work is planned for Spring 2011 and remains on programme.
