Fairer system - CMAL publish new pricing structure for pier and berthing dues
Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) has today published a new pricing structure for pier and berthing dues at all its harbours throughout the West Coast of Scotland.
The report follows a comprehensive review into the current charging arrangements inherited by CMAL, to ensure fair and open access to its port and harbour facilities as well as consistency across the network.
The fees collected are then used to contribute towards improvements and maintenance of harbour facilities and infrastructure owned by CMAL in Scotland.
BM Consulting were appointed in October 2007 to undertake a review of the existing charging structure with the main aims to:-
- Understand the concerns raised by facility users
- Compare existing rates to those charged at similar facilities
- Determine the appropriateness of the current charging structure
The review objectives were to deliver a pricing structure and scale of charges that are:-
- Fair and reasonable
- Simple to understand
- Consistent across the network and easy to administer
- Applicable to all third parties who use CMAL facilities
The new schedule will take effect from 1st April 2009 and an implementation plan with CalMac Ferries Ltd is being agreed.
Composite and annual charges will also come into effect from 1st April and any annual charge paid in 2008 will cover activity until this point.

These revised charges and fees do not apply to any transportation/passengers booked on CalMac operated ferry services but only to third party users of CMAL facilities.
