CMAL SEEK VIEWS ON PORT ELLEN AND KENNACRAIG TERMINALS
CMAL has appointed Halcrow Group Limited to undertake work for the development of business cases for infrastructure improvements at Port Ellen and at Kennacraig.
Now they are looking for the public to have their say as the business cases set out the future infrastructure needs and level of investment required at these ports to ensure modern, efficient and integrated ferry travel between Islay and the mainland.
In line with best practice methodology, a full business case ensures that decision makers are provided with all relevant information to make an informed choice about the level of investment required.
There will be a variety of ways for people to contribute to the study and air their views on issues such as the need for, and extent of, new berthing and passenger facilities, service reliability and the integration of transport between Port Ellen and Port Askaig.
These will include three open sessions at Port Ellen, Bowmore and Tarbert, telephone interviews as well as one to one interviews and also through an online questionnaire, available on the CMAL website www.cmassets.co.uk .
It’s anticipated both business cases will be completed early in the New Year with applications for funding made by spring 2009.
Those taking part in the consultation will be notified once all the information has been collated, and a draft report will made available through CMAL’s web site where there will be a final opportunity for comment.

Open Sessions will take place at Ramsay Hall in Port Ellen on 26th November between 4-7pm; Bowmore Hall in Bowmore on 25th November between 4-7pm and the Templar Arts Centre in Tarbert on 24th November, also between 4- 7pm. CMAL staff will be in attendance at these sessions although actual interviews will be conducted by Halcrow Group Ltd staff.

CMAL own property at piers and harbours at more than 21 locations throughout Scotland. CMAL are embarking on a programme of investment and improvements which will create better facilities and more opportunities for additional ferry services.
In addition to its pier and harbour facilities CMAL owns 31 ferries which are leased to CalMac Ferries Ltd and Cowal Ferries Ltd.
A modern £22m ferry for the route serving Islay from the mainland has been commissioned by CMAL and is being built by the Remontowa yard in Poland. Delivery of the new ferry is expected in spring 2011.
CMAL is a publicly owned company with Scottish Ministers as the sole shareholder.
