Port Ellen & Kennacraig – Consultation Findings
The key findings of the consultation into transport and infrastructure needs at Port Ellen and Kennacraig have been published today.
The main issues highlighted by those taking part include the need to improve vehicle and passenger access, vessel berthing capacity, marshalling, parking and passenger facilities at both locations.
Halcrow Group Limited undertook the study as part of the development of business cases for infrastructure improvements at Port Ellen and at Kennacraig. The business cases, setting out the future infrastructure needs and level of investment required at these ports to ensure modern, efficient and integrated ferry travel between Islay and the mainland, will be submitted by Spring 2009.There were a variety of ways for people to contribute to the study and air their views on issues such as service reliability and the integration of transport between Port Ellen and Port Askaig. These included open sessions at Port Ellen, Bowmore and Tarbert as well as an online questionnaire, telephone interviews and one to one meetings.
